THE IDEA

There has always been a debate of which athlete has the most iconic autograph out there. Is it the classic cursive of Jackie Robinson, the smooth strokes of Mariano Rivera, or the clean look of Tiger Woods? The list goes on and on, and an argument can be made for many. Why is it that we have this discussion? Well, because these signatures are more than simply a keepsake. They themselves are ART. Collectors have for years sought after their favorite player’s autograph. Each one is unique, each represents who they were as a player, and each an individual piece of artwork. That is why we at Art of the Signature wanted to create a totally different type of collectible. One where your favorite players signature is BIG, BOLD, and stands next to an original Dave Hobrecht designed painting in classic black & white.

What we came to realize was that for many people it was not so much what the signature came on, but simply being able to collect your favorite player’s autograph. That’s because it is more than just a signature; it’s a personal connection to their journey, accomplishments, and the moments that inspire us as fans.

Our custom pieces reflect this connection, bringing your love for the game to life in a meaningful way, and focusing on the “Art of the Signature.”

Our Team

Dave Hobrecht

Hobrecht is a world-renowned sports artist whose work is collected by art patrons across the globe. He is known for his classic, yet innovative black and white sports paintings, dramatic sports subjects, and masterful technique. Hobrecht’s unique dry brush application method and signature charcoal and pastel medium that he developed and perfected, all give his art an astonishing level of detail, movement, and realism that are unparalleled in the world of sports art.

Hobrecht is a sports enthusiast whose life was changed dramatically when he was hit by a car as a young teenager. Upon waking up in a hospital bed weeks later, he learned he would not have the opportunity to fulfill his dreams as an athlete. With both legs shattered and his goals of athletic success gone, he found a new way to participate in the sports he loved by refocusing his efforts toward documenting sports through art.
